Images of comet C/1996 B2 Hyakutake taken during the period Mar. 1 - 15, 1996
Note, that the colors on CCD images are false and were used in order to enhance the comet tail structure.
March 10, 1996
Wide-field CCD image of comet Hyakutake, recorded in the light of singly-ionized water ions was taken on 1996 Mar. 10, with the Zeiss 2.8/180mm lens and narrow-band H2O+ filter, centered at 620nm (FWHM=10nm). This image is a composition of two co-added frames and was additionally processed by Bojan Dintinjana. Cumulative exposure time was 12 minutes, centered at 22:59:30UT. The FOV (field of view) is 163'x107'. The comet was just climbing above the trees when this image was taken during the short dark period until the Moonrise. Note at least ~4o long ion tail with disconnection between the nucleus distance 1.0o - 1.4o.

March 6, 1996
Close-up view of comet, recorded in the light of singly-ionized water ions was taken on 1996 Mar. 6, with the 36-cm, f/6.8 S-C telescope, CCD and narrow-band H2O+ filter, centered at 620nm (FWHM=10nm). Exposure time was 5 minutes, starting at 3:37:09UT. Note the faint wavy ion tail, extending to NW direction. Taken in broad moonlight!
